Robert Half is partnering with an established higher education institution in San Antonio to find a Benefits Consultant for a 6-month contract engagement. This is a fully onsite role supporting a comprehensive employee benefits program.
About the Role
The Benefits Lead will own the day-to-day administration and strategic support of a full-service benefits program, including medical, prescription drug, dental, FSA, HSA, EAP, retirement, tuition remission/exchange, ancillary benefits, and employee leave. This role partners closely with a Health and Welfare Committee, brokers, and vendors, and plays a key part in annual open enrollment, compliance, and the organization's wellness calendar.
What You'll Do
Benefits Strategy & Program Management
- Support the administration of comprehensive benefits programs across medical, dental, prescription, FSA, HSA, EAP, retirement, tuition remission/exchange, and leave
- Contribute to benefits strategy in partnership with the Health and Welfare Committee
- Lead or support annual open enrollment planning, plan design, analysis, and implementation
- Partner with brokers and vendors on plan design evaluation, cost-saving opportunities, and vendor selection
- Oversee premium payments and audit accuracy against payroll deductions
Employee Communications & Engagement
- Develop benefits communication and education materials, including website content
- Coordinate and facilitate open enrollment meetings, new hire orientations, and individual consultations
- Support employees with enrollment and changes via Workday
Operations, Systems & Process Improvement
- Respond to and troubleshoot employee benefits and retirement plan inquiries
- Identify and implement process efficiencies in benefits administration
- Configure and maintain Workday benefits functionality and file feeds
- Use benefits technology to improve employee experience and reporting
Compliance, Risk & Vendor Management
- Maintain current knowledge of benefits and retirement regulations
- Partner with Risk Management to ensure regulatory compliance
- Maintain the plan document library
- Perform annual ACA compliance activities, including 1095 reporting
- Conduct FSA/HSA non-discrimination testing
- Manage benefits-related vendor contracts and compliance
Wellness Program Administration
- Develop and manage the annual wellness calendar
- Plan and coordinate wellness events, workshops, and trainings
- Track and report on wellness program participation and effectiveness
What We're Looking For
- Experience administering a full-cycle benefits program (medical, dental, retirement, leave, FSA/HSA)
- Hands-on Workday experience, ideally including configuration or file feed work
- Familiarity with ACA compliance and non-discrimination testing
- Experience supporting or leading open enrollment
- Wellness program experience a strong plus
- Higher education or large complex-organization experience a plus
- Comfortable working onsite in San Antonio for the duration of a 6-month contract
