About The Role
The Workday HCM Functional Lead is a customer-facing subject-matter expert who supports multiple Operators across Core HCM, security, compensation, benefits, payroll, and recruiting. This is a full-time, individual-contributor role based in Dallas, TX. The role is split roughly 50/50 between delivering new implementation projects and providing ongoing production support and maintenance. Serving as a trusted partner to each Operator, the Workday HCM Functional Lead will lead requirements-gathering sessions, configure and test Workday, guide Operators through go-live, and provide hands-on post-go-live support and troubleshooting while driving adoption of best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the customer-facing functional lead and Workday HCM subject-matter expert supporting multiple Operators, spanning Core HCM, organization structures, business processes, and security configuration.
- Lead requirements-gathering sessions with each Operator, documenting business needs and translating them into scalable Workday configuration and process designs.
- Configure, test, and deliver Workday across Compensation, Benefits, Payroll, and Recruiting for new Operator implementations, ensuring data integrity and alignment with policy and compliance requirements.
- Guide Operators through go-live and provide hands-on post-go-live production support, triaging and troubleshooting functional issues and resolving defects to keep processes running smoothly.
- Balance a workload split roughly 50/50 between new implementation projects and ongoing maintenance and support, prioritizing across competing Operator demands.
- Design and maintain Workday security, and lead functional testing for semi-annual Workday releases, enhancements, and new feature adoption, including regression testing and defect triage.
- Partner with integration, reporting, and IT teams to support end-to-end processes and maintain configuration documentation and functional runbooks.

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Information Systems, Business, or a related field
- 5+ years of hands-on Workday HCM functional configuration experience
- Deep functional expertise in Core HCM, including organization structures, supervisory organizations, the business process framework, and condition rules
- Hands-on configuration experience across Compensation (and Advanced Compensation), Benefits, Payroll, and Recruiting
- Strong knowledge of Workday security configuration, including role-based and user-based security groups, business process security policies, and domain security
- Experience with the Workday business process framework, calculated fields, condition rules, and EIB-based data loads and mass corrections
- Proficiency building and maintaining Workday reports (advanced, matrix, and composite), including report and data source security
- Solid understanding of the semi-annual Workday release cycle, functional testing, and requirements and configuration documentation across Sandbox, Implementation, and Production tenants
- Experience in a client-facing or multi-customer environment (e.g., consulting, managed services, or shared services), gathering requirements and managing competing stakeholder priorities
- Experience providing post-go-live production support, including issue triage, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and case management (e.g., ServiceNow, Jira, or Zendesk)
Preferred Qualifications & Certifications
- Workday HCM Core certification (Workday Pro) strongly preferred
- Workday Compensation and/or Benefits certification
- Workday Payroll
- Workday Recruiting
- Experience supporting a multi-entity or shared-services HR operating model, and prior progression from HRIS analyst to functional lead
