Legal Assistant position in North Haven immigration law office. Must speak Portuguese in addition to English. Do not apply if you do not speak Portuguese fluently. Speaking Spanish is a plus, but Portuguese is essential. Experience in immigration law is a plus.
Extensive phone work and contact with clients. Daily filing and work with client databases. All work requires close attention to detail. Carefully check client application packets for completeness, correctness, proper fees, signatures and mailing addresses before sending to government agencies. Proofread correspondence and applications. There is a possibility for schedule flexibility, so long as the candidate is present for all eight hours of the Monday workday.
Compensation varies on hours, experience and whether a candidate requires health insurance. We offer full medical benefits and a SIMPLE IRA with up to a 3% match, as long as you contribute.
An ideal candidate would have strong English writing skills and help draft clients statements, support letters, disengagement letters, exhibits for immigration court and USCIS cases and help with asylum and other kinds of client interviews. We offer a good opportunity to learn a lot about immigration law in a short period of time.
Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
