Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Industrial Welder / Pipe Fitter / Mechanic to join a field crew supporting mining, processing plant, and heavy industrial construction projects throughout Utah and surrounding areas.
This position will perform a combination of structural and pipe welding, pipe fitting, mechanical installation, equipment repair, fabrication, and plant maintenance. The ideal candidate has hands-on mine or processing plant experience and is comfortable working around conveyors, pumps, piping systems, material-handling equipment, and heavy machinery in active MSHA-regulated environments.
Responsibilities
- Perform structural, plate, and pipe welding using SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and other applicable processes
- Fit, fabricate, install, repair, and modify industrial piping and structural components
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, weld symbols, isometric drawings, and specifications
- Measure, cut, bevel, align, tack, and weld pipe, plate, and structural steel
- Install and repair pipe, valves, flanges, fittings, supports, hangers, and related components
- Perform mechanical installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and equipment repairs
- Work on conveyors, chutes, pumps, gearboxes, bearings, motors, pulleys, and material-handling systems
- Assist with equipment setting, alignment, rigging, assembly, and installation
- Remove and replace worn or damaged mechanical components
- Perform field fabrication and modifications as project conditions require
- Operate welders, torches, grinders, saws, drills, and other hand and power tools safely
- Work from lifts, scaffolds, platforms, and elevated work areas
- Coordinate with foremen, operators, millwrights, ironworkers, laborers, and other craft personnel
- Follow MSHA, OSHA, client, and site-specific safety requirements
- Participate in safety meetings, JHAs, toolbox talks, and pre-task planning
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
Qualifications
- Current MSHA certification required
- Industrial welding, pipe fitting, mechanical, millwright, or plant maintenance experience
- Experience working in mines, processing plants, cement plants, aggregate facilities, refineries, power plants, or similar heavy industrial environments
- Ability to read blueprints, welding symbols, piping isometrics, and mechanical drawings
- Experience fitting and welding industrial pipe and structural steel
- Mechanical knowledge of conveyors, pumps, bearings, gearboxes, motors, and rotating equipment
- Ability to use precision measuring and alignment tools
- Understanding of rigging, lifting, equipment setting, and safe material handling
- Strong understanding of industrial construction and maintenance safety
- Ability to work outdoors and in physically demanding industrial conditions
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel to project sites as required
- Dependable, safety-focused, and able to work effectively as part of a crew
Preferred Experience
- MSHA Part 48
- Mining or mineral-processing operations
- Conveyor and material-handling systems
- Plant shutdowns, turnarounds, and outages
- Pipe welding and pipe fitting
- Structural steel fabrication and installation
- Millwright or industrial mechanic experience
- Pumps, gearboxes, bearings, pulleys, and drive systems
- Equipment foundations and equipment setting
- Rigging and crane-supported installation
- Current welding certifications
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
- Confined-space, fall-protection, forklift, or aerial-lift certifications
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a versatile industrial tradesperson who can weld, fit pipe, perform mechanical repairs, and support installation or maintenance work as needed. This person should understand the safety and productivity expectations of active mining and processing facilities and be comfortable handling different assignments throughout the workday.
Compensation
Pay is $28–$35 per hour, depending on welding ability, pipe-fitting and mechanical experience, mining background, certifications, and overall fit.
