We are looking for an experienced Accounting Manager - Capital Projects & Fixed Assets for the Public Sector to join our team. This long-term contract position requires a strategic leader who thrives in fast-paced environments and has expertise in handling complex accounting operations within municipal or utilities sectors. Workday Financials experience is required. The role involves the hands-on processing of fixed assets,/ capital projects activities, and ensuring audit readiness for fiscal year-end processes.
Responsibilities:
• Manage & drive the accounting functions related to capital projects and fixed assets, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Reconcile and organize historical capital activity records spanning approximately two years.
• Develop and enforce asset capitalization policies and tracking protocols.
• Lead the migration of fixed asset and capital project data into Workday Financials.
• Validate and optimize the setup of Workday Fixed Assets and Project Accounting modules.
• Address gaps from prior system implementations to improve functionality and audit preparedness.
• Coordinate fiscal year-end close activities, including processing capital activity and preparing audit documentation.
• Collaborate with auditors to address findings and ensure compliance with capital accounting standards.
• Implement sustainable processes in environments with limited documentation or knowledge transfer.
• Create foundational documentation to support long-term operational stability.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with a focus on fixed assets and capital projects.
• Hands-on expertise with Workday Financials, particularly Fixed Assets and Project Accounting modules.
• Proven track record of reconstructing incomplete financial records and implementing effective processes.
• Strong understanding of capitalization policies, depreciation, and audit readiness.
• Experience in municipal or government accounting, or similar infrastructure-heavy environments.
• Ability to work independently in high-pressure settings with minimal supervision.
• Familiarity with preparing audit schedules and resolving audit findings.
• Preferred experience supporting government audits or stabilizing challenged system implementations.
