HRIS Analyst / HR Operations
Location: Richmond, CA (Hybrid)
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM-5:00 PM
Hybrid Requirement: 2 days onsite per week
Contract Length: 6+ months with potential for extension or conversion
Start Date: ASAP
Pay range: $40-50/hour
We are seeking a highly hands-on HRIS Analyst to support our Workday HCM go-live and the immediate post-launch stabilization period. This role is execution‑focused and requires someone with direct HRIS implementation experience (Workday required), strong payroll readiness knowledge, and comfort working closely with Finance, who owns payroll processing. The ideal candidate has progressed through multiple levels within HR, built a strong operational foundation, and brings seven or more years of progressive HR and compliance experience. Experience with 403(b) or 401(k) plans is highly transferable and valued.
Key Responsibilities
HR Operations
- Manage employee lifecycle processes from onboarding through offboarding.
- Partner with payroll on employee data management and payroll-related processes.
- Support new hire administration, I-9 compliance, and onboarding workflows.
- Maintain HR policies, procedures, and process documentation.
- Develop and improve SOPs and workflow efficiencies.
HRIS & Systems
- Serve as a key Workday resource.
- Support recently implemented Workday environment and optimize business processes.
- Assist with HR system integrations and process improvements.
- Help establish more robust workflows and system controls.
- Maintain HRIS data integrity and reporting accuracy.
Payroll & Compliance
- Partner closely with payroll and finance teams.
- Review payroll processes, controls, and employee data accuracy.
- Manage PTO, leave management, and accrual configurations.
- Update payroll-related system parameters as needed.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and organizational requirements.
Benefits Administration
- Manage benefit enrollments and ongoing administration.
- Support 401(k) and/or 403(b) administration.
- Coordinate with external benefits brokers.
- Assist with annual compliance activities and benefit audits.
Audits & Projects
- Support ongoing organizational audits.
- Lead internal review of 401(k) contribution discrepancies, earnings, hours, and deduction codes.
- Gather and provide documentation for auditors.
- Research inconsistencies and implement corrective actions.
- Participate in process improvement and systems-related projects.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of progressive HR Operations, HRIS, or Human Resources experience
- Strong Workday experience required, including system administration, reporting, process optimization, and post-implementation support
- Experience supporting HR operations across employee lifecycle management, payroll, benefits administration, leave management, compliance, and HR policies
- Proven ability to identify process gaps, streamline workflows, create SOPs, and improve operational efficiency
- Strong partnership experience with Payroll, Finance, Accounting, and cross-functional business teams
- Experience supporting internal audits, compliance initiatives, and regulatory requirements
- Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, Data Validation, reporting, and data analysis
- Experience with HRIS platforms and payroll systems; Paylocity experience is a plus
- Familiarity with retirement plan administration, including 401(k) and/or 403(b) programs
- Experience with HR systems integrations and data management preferred
- Strong project management, organizational, and time management skills
- Detail-oriented, process-driven professional with exceptional follow-through and the ability to manage competing priorities independently
- Comfortable enforcing deadlines, maintaining controls, and ensuring compliance standards are met
