About the Accounting Associate Role
Takanock is seeking an Accounting Associate to join our Corporate Finance team in Fulton, Maryland. This role reports to the Manager, Accounting and will support Takanock's core accounting operations, including the month-end close and consolidation, reconciliations, fixed asset and lease accounting, and financial reporting out of Workday, as transaction volume grows alongside our development portfolio.
This is a hands-on role for an organized, detail-oriented accountant who wants to build depth in the process side of accounting while growing with a young, fast-moving company. Takanock's finance systems and processes are actively being built and refined, so the right candidate is comfortable navigating ambiguity, takes ownership of their work, and knows when to push forward independently and when to raise a hand for guidance. The role also adds bench strength to the accounting function and offers the opportunity to grow with the team as Takanock expands its use of Workday.

- Support the monthly close and consolidation process, completing assigned close tasks accurately and on schedule.
- Prepare month-end accruals and adjusting entries, and maintain monthly workpapers supporting balance sheet accounts.

- Prepare monthly bank and balance sheet account reconciliations and investigate and clear reconciling items.
- Assist with general ledger maintenance and other day-to-day accounting activities as needed.
Fixed Assets, Capital Projects & Leases

- Support capital expenditure tracking and accruals, and help place completed assets in service in accordance with company capitalization policy.
- Update the accounting system for new and modified leases and support related lease accounting.
Reporting & Systems
- Run standard reports and build new and ad hoc reports out of Workday to support the accounting and finance teams.
- Assist in preparing monthly financial reporting packages and supporting schedules.
- Help maintain data integrity in Workday Financials and support system enhancements and new module rollouts as Takanock's Workday footprint expands.
- Use Excel to analyze data, reconcile accounts, and prepare supporting schedules.
Audit, Controls & Collaboration
- Support the annual external audit by preparing requested schedules and documentation in a timely manner.
- Partner closely with the Manager, Accounting, and the broader Corporate Finance team, including FP&A, to deliver accurate and timely financial information.
- Help research technical accounting policies, document and improve accounting processes, and expand internal controls as the function scales.
- Support ad hoc projects and requests from finance leadership.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- 3–5 years of accounting experience.
- Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment, with sound judgment on when to work independently and when to seek guidance.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact professionally with senior leadership.
- Ability to work on-site at our Fulton, MD office on a hybrid schedule.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship, now or in the future.
Experience & Qualifications
- Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and core accounting processes, including month-end close, journal entries, account and bank reconciliations, and fixed assets.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience running and building reports within an ERP or accounting system.
Preferred Qualifications
- Workday experience (Workday Financials or other Workday modules).
- Public accounting experience, particularly with a Big Four or national firm.
