Overview
We are seeking an experienced Workday Integration & Development Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead and execute complex Workday solutions across integrations, custom development, reporting, and HCM processes. This is a hands-on technical role that requires deep expertise in Workday Studio, Workday Orchestrate, Workday Extend, and BIRT reporting. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver who thrives in fast‑moving environments and can independently design, build, and support enterprise Workday solutions.
This position is Contract-to-Hire (3 months) with an anticipated full-time salary of $130K+ plus bonus potential upon conversion.
Only candidates who are local to Columbus, OH (preferred) or Minneapolis, MN will be considered.
This is a hybrid onsite role (4 days/week).
Key Responsibilities
Workday Integration & Technical Development
- Lead end‑to‑end design, build, testing, deployment, and support of Workday integrations using:
- Workday Studio
- Workday Orchestrate
- EIB
- Core Connectors
- Cloud Connect
- SOAP/REST Web Services
- Develop and maintain complex integrations with external systems and third‑party APIs.
- Implement effective error handling, monitoring, logging, and performance optimization.
- Build and maintain custom solutions using Workday Extend, including UI components, workflows, and business logic.
- Create and enhance data transformation logic using XML, JSON, XSLT, and calculated fields.
Reporting & Analytics
- Develop advanced reporting solutions using BIRT, Report Designer, and RaaS.
- Create high-quality document outputs, templates, and layouts aligned with business requirements.
- Partner with HR, Payroll, and business leaders to interpret reporting needs and translate them into scalable Workday solutions.
HCM & Functional Expertise
- Provide deep functional insight into Workday Human Capital Management processes:
- Core HCM
- Absence/Time
- Payroll
- Benefits
- Understand Workday business process configuration, security, and data models to support integrations and development initiatives.
Technical Leadership & Support
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across production, UAT, and development environments.
- Produce clear documentation, including technical specs, data mappings, workflows, and testing plans.
- Mentor and guide less experienced Workday developers or technical analysts.
- Stay current with Workday releases and emerging platform capabilities.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 5+ years hands-on Workday integration development experience, including:
- Workday Studio
- Workday Orchestrate
- EIB
- Core/Cloud Connectors
- Proven experience designing and building applications using Workday Extend.
- Strong proficiency with BIRT and document output/reporting tools.
- Deep knowledge of Workday APIs, web services, and data transformation (XML, JSON, XSLT).
- Solid understanding of Workday HCM business processes and data structures.
- Ability to work independently, solve complex technical problems, and manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non‑technical stakeholders.
- Experience with full SDLC: requirements, design, build, testing, deployment, and support.
Preferred Qualifications
- Workday certifications in Integrations, Studio, or Workday Extend.
- Experience supporting integrations across multiple Workday functional areas (HCM, Payroll, Benefits, Finance).
- Background in large enterprise or complex Workday environments.
