Job Title: People Operations Specialist – Benefits & Compliance

Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented, operations-driven People Operations Specialist to support benefits administration and compliance execution. This contract role is heavily execution-focused and ideal for a skilled HR/People Ops generalist who thrives in ambiguity, works independently, and keeps complex processes running cleanly end-to-end.
In this role, you will directly support Benefits and Compliance operations, acting as a frontline resource for employee inquiries while ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory rigor across benefits programs and required filings.
What You’ll Do
Benefits Operations & Employee Support
- Own and resolve complex employee benefits inquiries through a ticketing system, including medical coverage issues, FSA access, and carrier appeal guidance
- Provide timely, accurate, and high-empathy support to employees
Vendor & Partner Coordination
- Troubleshoot benefits issues end-to-end in partnership with vendors, carriers, Payroll, and internal teams
- Ensure clear documentation, follow-through, and resolution tracking
Compliance & Reporting Support
- Support execution of required compliance filings and deliverables, including:
- Written Affirmative Action Program (AAP)
- EEO-1 Component 1
- VETS-4212
- Maintain accurate records and documentation for audits and regulatory requirements
Workday & Data Operations
- Ensure benefits processes and file feeds run accurately in Workday (eligibility, deductions, QLEs, exception cleanup)
- Perform benefits file maintenance, resolve rejections, and conduct audits
- Support recurring reconciliations, including monthly 401(k) deferral reconciliation with Payroll
Documentation & Process Improvement
- Manage benefits-related mail and forms (e.g., 1095-C inquiries, disability forms)
- Create and update SOPs, templates, and knowledge articles to standardize operations and reduce repeat issues
What You Bring
- 3–5+ years of experience in People Ops, HR Ops, Benefits Ops, or HR Generalist roles in fast-paced environments
- Hands-on experience supporting benefits administration and employee inquiries
- Experience executing or supporting compliance filings and maintaining high-integrity records
- Strong spreadsheet skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables) and comfort reconciling data and resolving discrepancies
- Proficiency with HRIS platforms (Workday preferred), ticketing systems, and Google Workspace
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex topics into employee-friendly guidance
- High attention to detail, strong follow-through, and an operations-first mindset
- Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and navigate ambiguity
