HCM Director
Employment Type: Full-time permanent position
Schedule: 40 hours per week
Preferred Locations: Chicago, Dallas, or Philadelphia (Chicago preferred)
Onsite Expectations:
Approximately 50% onsite presence monthly
Flexible schedule averaging 2–3 onsite days per week depending on business needs
Our client is seeking an experienced and client-focused Workday Lead Consultant to join a growing Workday HCM practice. This role offers the opportunity to contribute across multiple areas of delivery while helping shape and expand a dynamic consulting team. The ideal candidate brings strong Workday HCM expertise, a consultative mindset, and the ability to build trusted client relationships.
This individual will partner directly with clients to implement and optimize Workday HCM solutions, provide strategic guidance, and support successful project delivery. The ideal candidate is proactive, collaborative, innovative, and thrives in fast-paced environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with clients to understand business requirements and translate them into effective Workday HCM solutions.
- Configure and implement Workday HCM modules including Core HCM, Compensation, Benefits, Recruiting, Talent, Absence, and Time Tracking.
- Lead discovery sessions and workshops to gather requirements and document business processes, process flows, and system designs.
- Conduct fit-gap analyses and recommend scalable solutions aligned with client needs and best practices.
- Advise clients on Workday functionality, optimization opportunities, and implementation best practices.
- Design and develop Workday reports, dashboards, and analytics solutions.
- Support data conversion activities and partner with teams to validate and migrate legacy data into Workday.
- Collaborate with integration teams to support configuration and testing of integrations between Workday and external systems.
- Assist with testing strategy development, test script creation, system testing, and issue resolution.
- Deliver end-user training and support organizational change management initiatives.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues during implementation and post-production support phases.
- Stay current on Workday releases and emerging functionality and share knowledge across the team.
- Contribute to process improvements, internal methodologies, and practice development initiatives.
- Participate in pre-sales efforts including demos, proposals, and client presentations as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum 8 years of experience supporting or implementing Workday HCM solutions
- Strong functional knowledge of payroll processing and related regulations
- Experience collaborating across HR, payroll, finance, and technical teams
- Workday certifications in HCM, Reporting, Payroll, or related areas preferred (or ability to obtain certifications)
- Previous consulting or client-facing experience strongly preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex business requirements into system solutions
- Knowledge of Workday security framework and role-based permissions
- Experience supporting data conversion and migration efforts
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to work collaboratively in team-based environments and manage client relationships effectively
- Willingness to travel to client locations as needed
