Company Description
Guardian Tax Law is a family-friendly law firm that aims to deliver work/life balance through setting reasonable expectations for team members.
Guardian Tax Law specializes in providing tailored solutions to address complex IRS and State tax issues with expertise and dedication. The firm prioritizes client comfort and confidence throughout the legal process. Guardian Tax Law ensures personalized attention by offering confidential consultations to evaluate tax situations, gather crucial information, and develop optimal strategies. With a client-focused approach, the firm is committed to delivering effective outcomes.
Reasonable expectations, for us, means clear expectations: we invest in structured onboarding and a supportive team, and in return we rely on every attorney to manage their caseload independently and stay reliably connected with the team day to day. The specifics of what that looks like are below.
Role Description
This is a full-time, remote role for an Associate Tax Attorney based in the US. The Associate Tax Attorney will undertake a variety of tasks including handling tax controversies, providing counsel on tax compliance, SBA loan resolutions, and representing clients in tax-related legal matters. The candidate will also collaborate with clients to develop strategies that address specific tax and estate planning needs and ensure adherence to relevant tax laws and regulations.
Attorneys in this role manage an active caseload independently from early in their tenure, following a structured first-week onboarding on our case management and communication systems. This is a fast-paced practice with a real, ongoing caseload from day one.
Remote Work & Communication Expectations
Guardian operates as a distributed team, and reliable, real-time communication is essential to how we coordinate client work. This role requires:
- Maintaining active availability on Microsoft Teams and your firm phone line throughout core business hours, and responding to colleague and client-related messages promptly during the workday.
- Documenting all case activity — notes, status updates, and task changes — directly in our case management system as work is completed.
- A stable, high-speed home internet connection capable of reliably running video calls alongside case management, phone, and email software simultaneously, plus a dedicated, distraction-free workspace.
- Comfort learning and operating multiple cloud-based platforms concurrently (case management software, a VoIP phone system, Microsoft Teams/Outlook) as a normal part of daily practice.
- Working independently day to day, with regular but not constant check-ins from a supervising attorney — this role suits someone who is self-directed and proactively communicates status and questions, rather than waiting to be asked.
Qualifications
- Ability to analyze complex legal documents and provide practical guidance.
- Excellent research, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree with active state bar membership in good standing.
- Prior experience in a tax law firm is preferred but not required.
- Demonstrated success working independently in a fully remote role, including proactive, self-initiated communication with supervisors and colleagues rather than waiting to be checked on.
- Comfort learning and operating multiple cloud-based platforms concurrently as a normal part of daily practice (see Remote Work & Communication Expectations above).
