Principal Workday HCM Analyst
Location: Bedford, MA

Pay Rate: $79/hour or about $161,000 a year

Position Summary
The Principal Workday HCM Analyst is a senior individual contributor responsible for the configuration, administration, optimization, and ongoing support of the Workday platform. This is a highly hands-on position with no direct people-management responsibilities.
The Principal Analyst will serve as a senior Workday HCM subject matter expert and escalation point for complex configuration, business process, security, reporting, and data issues. This individual will independently translate business requirements into scalable Workday solutions while supporting an environment where Workday configuration and administration are managed internally.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a senior hands-on Workday HCM subject matter expert and escalation point for complex system issues.
- Design, configure, test, deploy, maintain, and optimize Workday HCM functionality.
- Translate business requirements into practical, effective, and scalable Workday solutions.
- Configure and optimize Workday Business Processes, including condition rules, validations, approvals, routing, notifications, and related functionality.
- Configure and maintain Workday security, including security groups, domain security, Business Process security, and role-based access.
- Build, test, and execute Enterprise Interface Builders (EIBs) for employee transactions and high-volume data changes.
- Execute and support mass employee transactions, including hires, terminations, job changes, organizational changes, compensation changes, and other employee data updates.
- Develop complex Workday reports, including Advanced and Matrix reports.
- Build and maintain calculated fields, dashboards, alerts, and reporting and analytics solutions.
- Perform data audits, reconciliations, validation, and corrective actions to maintain data quality and integrity.
- Troubleshoot complex Workday configuration, Business Process, security, reporting, and data issues through resolution.
- Evaluate Workday releases and new functionality, conduct impact assessments and testing, and recommend opportunities to enhance existing configurations and processes.
- Identify and implement opportunities to automate manual processes and improve the efficiency, scalability, and user experience of Workday.
- Partner with HR, Total Rewards, Payroll, Finance, IT, and other business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver Workday solutions.
- Maintain configuration documentation, testing protocols, change controls, and appropriate system governance.
- Serve as a trusted Workday resource for HR and business stakeholders.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of progressive HRIS experience, with deep hands-on Workday HCM expertise.
- Demonstrated ability to independently configure, administer, optimize, and support Workday in a complex business environment.
- Advanced experience with Workday Business Process configuration.
- Advanced experience with Workday security configuration and troubleshooting.
- Strong hands-on experience building and executing EIBs and high-volume data loads.
- Experience executing mass employee transactions, including hires, terminations, job changes, organizational changes, and compensation updates.
- Advanced Workday reporting experience, including Advanced Reports, Matrix Reports, calculated fields, and dashboards.
- Strong understanding of Workday foundational configuration, including supervisory organizations, positions, job profiles, compensation structures, and organizational structures.
- Proven ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve complex Workday issues.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to data integrity, controls, and accuracy.
- Ability to translate business requirements into practical Workday configuration and process solutions.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to partner effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Education
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in an analytical, technical, HRIS, information systems, or related field preferred.
Additional Requirements
- Candidates must be local to the Bedford, Massachusetts area or within a reasonable commuting distance.
- Must be able to work onsite at the Bedford facility 3–5 days per week.
- Candidates must have substantial hands-on Workday HCM configuration experience; this is not primarily a people-management or high-level HRIS strategy position.
