Job Title: Workday Security Consultant
The University of Alabama is seeking an experienced Workday Security Consultant to lead and support the design, implementation, and maintenance of Workday security across HCM, Financials, and other Workday modules. The consultant will ensure data privacy, regulatory compliance, and role-based access aligned with university policies and best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, configure, and maintain Workday security framework including:
- Domain Security Policies
- Business Process Security Policies
- Role-Based and User-Based Security Groups
- Segmentation of Duties (SoD)
- Implement and manage security for HCM, Payroll, Finance, Student, and Reporting modules.
- Perform security audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews (FERPA, HIPAA, GDPR where applicable).
- Develop and maintain security roles for faculty, staff, administrators, and student workers.
- Troubleshoot and resolve security-related issues, access problems, and integration security errors.
- Support Workday releases, patches, and security impact analysis.
- Collaborate with HR, IT, Payroll, Finance, and Internal Audit teams.
- Document security configurations, processes, and governance standards.
- Provide guidance on best practices for Workday security architecture and data protection.
Required Skills & Experience
- 6+ years of Workday experience with at least 3+ years in Workday Security.
- Strong hands-on expertise in:
- Workday Security Model
- Domains, Business Processes, and Security Groups
- Role-based and data-based security
- Workday Reporting and Integration Security
- Experience in higher education Workday implementations is highly preferred.
- Solid understanding of compliance standards (FERPA, SOX, GDPR, HIPAA).
- Experience with security testing, audits, and release management.
- Excellent analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Workday Security Certification (HCM, Financials, or Integration).
- Experience supporting Workday Student.
- Prior experience in large, complex enterprise or university environments.
- Exposure to IAM tools (Okta, Azure AD, SSO, MFA).

Position 2
Job Title: Senior Workday Security Consultant / Workday Security Architect
The University of Alabama is seeking a highly experienced Senior Workday Security Consultant to serve as the Security Architect and lead for Workday HCM, Financials, Payroll, Student, and Integrations. This role will own the end-to-end Workday security strategy, governance, compliance, and advanced configuration across a large, complex higher-education environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as Workday Security Architect and Subject Matter Expert for all security design and governance.
- Define and implement enterprise-wide Workday security model including:
- Domain and Business Process Security Policies
- Role-Based, User-Based, and Data-Based Security Groups
- Segregation of Duties (SoD) and risk controls
- Lead security design for complex organizational structures, academic hierarchies, and multi-entity environments.
- Establish and enforce security standards aligned with FERPA, HIPAA, SOX, GDPR, and university data governance policies.
- Partner with IAM teams to integrate Workday with SSO, MFA, and identity lifecycle management (Okta/Azure AD).
- Perform security impact analysis for Workday releases and major enhancements.
- Lead audits, access reviews, and remediation plans.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior Workday security analysts.
- Own security for integrations, EIBs, Studio, and third-party vendor access.
- Develop and maintain security documentation, role catalogs, and approval workflows.
- Advise HR, Payroll, Finance, Student Administration, and Compliance leadership on best practices.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of overall IT / ERP experience with 6–8+ years in Workday and 4+ years in advanced Workday Security.
- Deep hands-on expertise in:
- Workday Security Architecture
- Domains, Business Process Framework, and Custom Security Groups
- Data Security, Contextual Security, and SoD controls
- Reporting & Integration Security
- Experience leading security for large enterprise or higher education Workday implementations.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance: FERPA, HIPAA, SOX, GDPR, GLBA.
- Experience with audit support, controls testing, and remediation.
- Proven ability to design scalable, compliant security models.
Preferred
- Workday Pro Certification – Security, HCM, Financials, or Student.
- Experience with Workday Student is a major plus.
- Experience with IAM, SSO, MFA, and identity governance platforms.
- Prior consulting or architect role in multi-module Workday environments.
