The Senior Manager, Total Rewards & People Operations serves as the organization’s in‑house expert on compensation strategy, design, and administration. This leader oversees the full spectrum of Total Rewards programs including compensation, benefits, HR operations, and Workday HRIS to ensure programs are competitive, compliant, and aligned with organizational goals.
This role manages a multidisciplinary team responsible for benefits and leave administration, people operations and HR data integrity, contractor processes, and Workday system configuration. The Senior Manager ensures regulatory compliance (especially California requirements), drives operational excellence, and develops transparent, data‑driven practices that support enterprise growth.
The ideal candidate is a compensation subject‑matter expert with extensive experience in California labor and regulatory reporting requirements, a deep understanding of Workday (particularly Advanced Compensation), and strong leadership abilities.
You will focus on:
Strategic Leadership & Program Direction
- Lead the organization’s Total Rewards strategy, ensuring competitiveness, equity, and alignment with organizational goals.
- Provide strategic thought partnership for workforce planning, job architecture, and job level design.
- Develop and maintain compensation philosophies, policies, and governance frameworks.
- Present compensation strategy, insights, and recommendations to senior leadership.
Compensation Design & Administration (Primary Focus Area)
- Serve as the organization’s subject‑matter expert for all compensation programs, methodologies, and market practices.
- Lead annual and mid‑year compensation cycles (merit, bonus, equity/long‑term incentives).
- Design and maintain salary structures, ranges, and incentive plans.
- Conduct market pricing, job evaluations, and competitive benchmarking.
- Ensure accurate and timely compensation transactions in Workday and payroll.
- Partner closely with Finance to track incentive accruals, conduct modeling, and ensure budget compliance.
- Stay current on California pay transparency laws, wage‑hour regulations, and required annual reports (e.g., CA Pay Data Reporting).
Benefits & Operations Leadership
Lead and support a team responsible for:
- Benefits & LOA Specialist: Administration of health and welfare plans, 401(k), leave of absence programs, and related compliance.
- People Operations Specialist: HR data management, HR reporting/analytics, contractor process oversight, and scalable operational workflows.
- Workday HRIS Specialist: Workday configuration, system maintenance, Advanced Compensation setup, testing, job catalog management, and data integrity.
Systems, Technology & Process Optimization
- Oversee Workday structure for job profiles, grades, compensation plans, and business processes.
- Drive continuous improvement in total rewards operations through automation and system enhancements.
- Develop dashboards and compensation analytics to support decision‑making and transparency.
- Ensure efficient, accurate workflows between HR, Payroll, and Finance.
Compliance, Policy & Risk Mitigation
- Ensure adherence to CA labor laws, wage‑hour rules, pay transparency, and regulatory reporting (including CA Pay Data Reporting).
- Maintain compliant and scalable procedures for leave administration, benefit plans, and compensation processes.
- Partner with Legal and Finance to support internal audits, external audits, and corrections.
- Maintain vendor relationships related to compensation benchmarking, benefits, and HR systems.
Education, Communication & Enablement
- Develop and deliver compensation education for managers and employees.
- Translate complex compensation concepts into clear, accessible communications.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to leaders regarding pay decisions, job levels, and workforce planning.
The Skills, Experience & Education You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or related field.
- 7+ years compensation experience, including lead or senior‑level responsibility.
- 5+ years experience in HR operations, total rewards, or related areas.
- Demonstrated expertise with California labor laws and required state reporting.
- Experience managing and developing HR team members.
- Experience in healthcare preferred but not required.
The Base Salary for this position is $107,250 - $128,700/year
