Our client, a non-profit organization, is seeking a Payroll Officer in their New York City location.
The Payroll Officer is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of U.S. payroll, with additional oversight of a small Amsterdam payroll. This role ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll regulations while maintaining high standards of data integrity, confidentiality, and customer service. The position works closely with internal teams and external payroll providers to deliver reliable payroll operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process full-cycle U.S. payroll using Workday Payroll
- Coordinate payroll processing with external vendors
- Review payroll changes, audits, and supporting documentation
- Maintain payroll calendars and ensure deadlines are met
- Prepare payroll reconciliations, reporting, and year-end documentation (including W-2 support)
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
- Support internal and external payroll audits
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve complex payroll issues
- Partner with HR, Finance, IT, Legal, and other internal stakeholders
Qualifications
- 6+ years of payroll experience
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Hands-on experience processing payroll in Workday Payroll (not HRIS only)
- Strong knowledge of U.S. payroll regulations and basic accounting concepts (GL, debits/credits)
- Experience working with payroll vendors and cross-functional teams
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
