Overview:
How you can make a difference
This role is the foundation of HealthEquity’s Workday platform. As the Sr Workday Tech Lead – Core HCM, Benefits & Security, you will own the core configuration, data model, and security framework that every People process depends on. This is not a “keep the lights on” role. It’s an opportunity to shape the long‑term health, stability, and scalability of an enterprise Workday ecosystem at a moment of significant transformation.
You will serve as the platform steward for Core HCM, Benefits, and Workday Security—ensuring worker data integrity, clean lifecycle processes, appropriate access, and durable configuration that can support growth and increasingly sophisticated People programs.
Your decisions will critically determine whether the platform remains trusted, auditable, and resilient over time. This role requires someone who can operate deep in the technical details while also pulling back to see the system as a whole. You’ll be expected to identify downstream impacts, push back on short‑term or requirements‑driven decisions that introduce risk, and help guide the organization toward solutions that protect the platform long after go‑live.
Success here means Workday remains a stable system of record, not a fragile patchwork of fixes.
-
Own the end‑to‑end stewardship of Core HCM, Benefits, and foundational Security within Workday
-
Serve as the primary domain owner for foundational configuration, with accountability for durability, consistency, and long‑term maintainability
-
Act as a platform‑level thinker, proactively identifying cross‑module impacts, dependencies, and risks before changes are deployed
-
Translate People program goals into well‑governed, scalable Workday solutions, rather than point‑in‑time fixes
-
Own the Workday worker data model and lifecycle events (hire, change, leave, termination), ensuring accuracy and integrity across the platform
-
Design, configure, test, and deploy enhancements affecting foundational Workday functionality
-
Own Workday security configuration, balancing usability with compliance, auditability, and data protection
-
Oversee Benefits configuration and integrations, ensuring clean enrollment logic, accurate downstream data, and smooth annual cycles
-
Establish and maintain operational and foundational reporting that People teams can trust
-
Partner closely with other People Technology domain owners to ensure the platform functions as one cohesive system, not siloed modules
-
Work with People Service Delivery to ensure clear support models, escalation paths, and feedback loops
-
Monitor platform health, Workday releases, and user feedback to proactively manage risk and opportunity
-
Uphold People Technology standards and governance, helping prevent configuration drift and technical debt
-
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in HR, Information Systems, Business, or a related field
-
Hands‑on experience configuring and owning Workday Core HCM (this role requires real depth)
-
Experience partnering with functional leaders to deliver enterprise‑scale, technology‑enabled People programs
-
Strong command of Workday Core HCM data structures, business processes, and cross‑module dependencies
-
Experience designing and maintaining role‑based Workday security models
-
Experience owning a Workday domain post‑implementation, not just during go‑live
-
Ability to clearly assess and articulate upstream and downstream impacts of configuration and release changes
-
A systems and platform mindset—you think beyond the immediate request to long‑term implications
-
Comfort pushing back when decisions introduce risk, rework, or long‑term instability
-
Strong judgment around governance, compliance, and data integrity without becoming overly rigid
-
Clear, confident communicator who can influence without authority
-
Comfortable operating in an evolving, outcome‑focused environment
-
Workday Core HCM certification preferred
-
Additional Workday certifications (Benefits, Security) preferred
