Payroll Manager (Onsite – Washington, DC)
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee end-to-end U.S. payroll operations, ensuring timely and accurate processing
- Lead payroll tax activities, including reconciliations, filings, amendments, and year-end reporting
- Manage garnishments, deductions, and compliance requirements across multiple jurisdictions
- Serve as the Workday Payroll subject matter expert, owning configuration, integrations, and system enhancements
- Identify and implement automation opportunities to reduce manual effort and improve accuracy
- Partner with HRIS, Finance, and Benefits to streamline workflows and ensure seamless data integration
- Develop reporting and dashboards to track payroll metrics, trends, and compliance
- Support general ledger postings, reconciliations, and audit readiness in collaboration with Finance
- Lead year-end payroll processes, including W-2 processing and audits
- Mentor and develop payroll team members, fostering a high-performance environment
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and operational excellence
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive payroll experience, including leadership responsibilities
- 5+ years of Workday Payroll expertise (configuration, integrations, reporting, timekeeping)
- Proven experience in modernizing payroll through automation and process improvement
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll regulations
- Advanced analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights
- Excellent cross-functional communication and stakeholder management skills
- Strong proficiency in reporting tools and Excel
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet critical deadlines
Preferred:
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) and/or Workday certification
Work Environment
- Fully onsite role in Washington, DC (5 days/week)
