Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced and hands-on Principal Business Analyst to support complex, cross-functional Finance Transformation initiatives focused on emerging business models. This role sits at the intersection of Finance, Business Technology, Product, and Operations, driving end-to-end analysis across marketplaces, AI/token-based offerings, consumption and usage-based billing, partner transactions, and digital commerce. You will partner with Finance stakeholders to translate intricate business and accounting needs into scalable processes, system requirements, controls, and testing strategies across platforms such as Salesforce, Workday Financials, Stripe, and other billing and revenue systems. The ideal candidate combines strong business analysis fundamentals with deep expertise in order-to-cash, billing, revenue recognition, accounting, and financial controls — someone who can take an ambiguous business model and transform it into a clear, executable end-to-end process, requirements set, and launch plan.
Responsibilities
- Lead business analysis for complex Finance Transformation programs spanning marketplace, consumption, usage-based offerings, AI tokens and credits, billing, payments, and revenue recognition.
- Facilitate discovery sessions with Finance, Product, Engineering, Accounting, Tax, Sales Operations, and other stakeholders to translate business needs into actionable requirements.
- Own requirements from initial discovery through design, testing, launch, and post-launch stabilization.
- Proactively identify process gaps, downstream dependencies, financial risks, control implications, and decisions required to advance programs.
- Develop detailed current-state and future-state process flows, including system interactions, data handoffs, accounting events, controls, reconciliations, and exception paths.
- Create clear visual process maps and system flows using tools such as Miro, Lucidchart, or Visio.
- Map complex end-to-end flows across systems such as Salesforce, billing and payment platforms, Workday Financials, revenue recognition engines, and reporting tools.
- Partner with Finance and technical teams to evaluate solution options and ensure designs support scalable, controlled financial processes.
- Develop high-quality business requirements documents, functional requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, process documentation, decision logs, and traceability documentation.
- Translate Finance and Accounting requirements into language that technical and product teams can design and build against.
- Ensure requirements address exceptions, reversals, refunds, amendments, reconciliation, accounting treatment, reporting, auditability, and controls — not just the happy path.
- Develop comprehensive UAT strategies, test scenarios, test scripts, expected results, test data requirements, and requirements-to-test traceability matrices.
- Coordinate Finance UAT across multiple teams and systems, managing testing progress, defects, retesting, and readiness criteria using tools such as Jira.
- Drive issues to resolution and clearly escalate risks affecting financial accuracy, customer billing, revenue recognition, controls, or launch readiness.
- Support go/no-go decisions and lead post-launch stabilization activities.
- Support Finance requirements and process design for marketplace and third-party transactions, consumption and usage-based billing, AI tokens and prepaid consumption models, Stripe-based payment and settlement workflows, revenue share and partner transactions, and billing adjustments, credits, and reconciliation processes.
Skills
- Exceptional ability to take ambiguous problems and create structured process flows, requirements, decisions, and execution plans.
- Strong hands-on experience with process mapping and visualization tools, with a preference for Miro.
- Deep expertise developing BRDs, user stories, acceptance criteria, process documentation, and UAT artifacts.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex, cross-functional UAT and defect management cycles.
- Strong understanding of end-to-end Order-to-Cash processes including quoting, order capture, billing, payments, accounting, revenue recognition, reconciliation, and reporting.
- Working knowledge of accounting concepts with the ability to partner effectively with Revenue Accounting, AR, Controllership, Tax, and other Finance teams.
- Experience with Salesforce and Workday Financials.
- Experience with Stripe, marketplace payment flows, payment processing, settlement, or reconciliation.
- Familiarity with usage-based and consumption billing, digital marketplaces, credits and tokens, subscriptions, or other emerging monetization models.
- Proficiency with Jira and Agile delivery methodologies.
- Ability to communicate complex process and system issues clearly to both technical teams and senior Finance stakeholders.
- End-to-end thinking that connects upstream product and sales decisions to billing, accounting, revenue, reporting, controls, and reconciliation outcomes.
Experience
- Significant experience as a Principal Business Analyst supporting complex Finance, ERP, Order-to-Cash, Billing, or Finance Transformation programs.
- Proven track record leading cross-functional business analysis initiatives from discovery through launch and stabilization.
- Hands-on experience supporting a few or more of the following: marketplace platforms, consumption billing, usage-based SaaS models, AI and token-based offerings, Stripe or payment ecosystems, Salesforce transformation, Workday Financials, revenue recognition, or large-scale Order-to-Cash transformation.
- Experience managing UAT coordination, defect tracking, and launch readiness across multiple systems and stakeholder groups.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Business analysis certifications such as CBAP or PMI-PBA are a plus.
- Agile or Scrum certifications are advantageous.
