Flagship is looking for a Senior Accountant who owns their accounts end to end: closes them on time, reconciles them to support, explains every movement, and fixes the root cause when something is wrong. You will work in Workday Financials across multiple legal entities, lines of business and hundreds of job sites, and you will help us raise the bar on close quality, balance sheet integrity and reporting to leadership, our lenders and our auditors.
This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to grow: you will review the work of staff and offshore accountants, lead specialized rollforwards and reserves, and help build the processes and controls of a scaling finance team.
What Success Looks Like
- First 90 days: owns a defined set of close tasks and reconciliations, all on time, tied to the GL and with no unsupported balances.
- Within 6 months: leads one or more rollforwards (fixed assets, leases or reserves) and audit request lists end to end; reviews staff and offshore work.
- Within 12 months: has improved at least one close process or control in a measurable way (fewer manual entries, faster close or fewer reconciling items).
Why Flagship
- 401(k) with company match.
- Flexible Paid time off
- Real ownership and visibility with the CFO and senior leadership.
- Clear path for advancement as the finance team grows.
- Hybrid work schedule, will be on site 4 days per week for first 90 days, then discuss with manager.
What You'll Do
Month-end close and general ledger
- Own assigned sections of the monthly close checklist and deliver them on schedule.
- Prepare and review journal entries with complete support and correct Workday work tags (company, cost center, project/job and management category).
- Prepare well-supported accruals across lines of business and corporate, including payroll, PTO, credit card/T&E, insurance and unbilled or un-invoiced costs.
- Maintain prepaid and amortization schedules and confirm entries tie to the GL each month.
- Identify out-of-period and non-recurring items and document them so results can be normalized.
Balance sheet integrity
- Prepare and review monthly reconciliations and rollforwards for assigned asset and liability accounts, including cash, clearing, intercompany and accrued liabilities.
- Research and clear aged reconciling items; propose and book correcting entries.
Fixed assets and leases
- Own fixed asset accounting: capitalization review (including assets in process and software implementation costs), depreciation by job and location, transfers and disposals, and rollforward reporting.
- Reconcile the fixed asset subledger to operational records (e.g., fleet management system) and the GL.
- Own lease accounting under ASC 842, including new leases, modifications and related reporting.
Specialized accounts and reserves
- Prepare or support roll forwards for self-insured reserves (workers' comp, general liability and health & welfare IBNR), using actuarial reports and third-party administrator data.
- Support accounting for debt, interest rate swaps, deferred compensation plan assets and liabilities, and legal and settlement accruals.
Reporting, analysis and lenders
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, balance sheet and P&L flux analyses, and management reporting by line of business.
- Support lender reporting, including borrowing base, trailing-twelve-month results and covenant schedules, and provide inputs to the 13-week cash flow forecast.
Audit and controls
- Prepare audit support schedules and respond to auditor requests (PBC) for interim and year-end audits.
- Perform and document key controls; write short accounting memos for judgment areas, with research in the FASB Codification.
Systems, process improvement and people
- Build and maintain Workday reports and use automation, data and AI tools to speed up the close and reduce manual work.
- Coach staff accountants and coordinate with our offshore accounting team, including reviewing their work.
- Partner with FP&A, payroll, AP, AR and operations to resolve issues at the source.
