Role Overview:
We are looking for an experienced, self-directed Controller to manage all accounting operations for National Testing Network and Ergometrics. This is a fully remote role, offering exceptional flexibility for a professional who appreciates multi-faceted work in a friendly, stable, and relatively small company environment.
This position works collaboratively with all departments to ensure that processes are efficient, accurate, and up to date. Reporting directly to the fractional Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and visibility to the CEO, there is a progression opportunity to CFO as the company grows. The Controller is responsible for accounts receivable, accounts payable, sales and use tax, commissions, payroll, fixed assets, and budgets. You will also drive financial and management reporting, implement process improvements, maintain internal controls, and oversee our accounting team, which consists of one domestic resource and a dedicated offshore team.

Principal Accountabilities:
Management
● Ensure a customer-service-oriented working environment.
● Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
● Oversee the operations of the accounting department, effectively managing both domestic and offshore resources to achieve department goals.
● Manage outsourced functions and vendor relationships.
● Monitor company insurance needs and renewals.
● Oversee employee benefit plans, with an emphasis on maximizing a cost-effective package.
● Manage cash and fixed assets, working to minimize asset losses.
Transactions Ensure that:
● Accounts Payable are paid in a timely manner.
● Customer invoices and commission accruals are prepared on time.
● Accounts Receivable are collected promptly.
● Payroll is processed accurately and on time.
● Periodic bank reconciliations are completed and any inconsistencies are resolved.
Maintain:
● The chart of accounts.
● An orderly, digital accounting filing system.
● A system of controls over accounting transactions.
● Records of Company trademarks, copyrights, and general corporate documents.
Reporting
● Issue timely and complete financial statements.
● Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics.
● Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts.
● Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management.
Compliance
● Coordinate the provision of information to the company’s CPA as needed for all Federal and State Tax Returns.
● Register the Company in states, counties, and cities as required (requires online search of municipal websites for forms and submittal of required information).
● Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings, including multiple state permits, annual reports, licenses, sales and use tax returns, city business taxes, and 1099 reporting.
Qualifications
● Active CPA license required.
● MBA preferred.
● Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or equivalent business experience.
● 10+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
● High level of proficiency with our modern tech stack: QBO, Stripe, Bill.com, Hubspot, and Paylocity.
● Strong general computer skills, including advanced experience with Microsoft Excel.
● Proven ability to manage remote and offshore team members effectively.
