Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accounting Assistant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will support various accounting functions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial standards. Duties
- Perform data entry and maintain accurate records of financial transactions using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or Workday.
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, ensuring timely processing of invoices and payments.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts, balance sheets, and bank statements to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare journal entries, account analysis, and account reconciliations in accordance with GAAP standards.
- Support payroll management using systems like ADP, Paychex, Kronos, Ceridian, or UltiPro, including processing payroll and related tax filings.
- Conduct month-end and year-end closing activities, including ledger review and financial statement preparation.
- Assist with budgeting, financial analysis, and variance reporting to support management decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with SOX controls and maintain documentation for audit purposes.
- Collaborate with internal teams on technical accounting issues related to governmental or non-profit accounting standards.
- Support tax preparation activities by organizing relevant documentation and assisting with filings as needed.
Experience
- Proven experience working with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, PeopleSoft, or similar platforms.
- Strong understanding of financial concepts including debits & credits, double-entry bookkeeping, journal entries, and general ledger reconciliation.
- Knowledge of GAAP principles, corporate accounting practices, and governmental or non-profit accounting is preferred.
- Familiarity with payroll management systems like ADP or Paychex is highly desirable.
- Experience in accounts payable/receivable processes, balance sheet reconciliation, and account analysis.
- Ability to perform high-volume data entry with accuracy (10 key typing skills).
- Basic understanding of tax regulations related to payroll and corporate taxes.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
